FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Still wondering if my services are the right choice for you? Check out the answers to some of my clients’ most common contracting questions below. I’ve tried to cover a variety of topics but if there’s still something you’d like to know more about, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I’d be happy to hear from you.
WHAT IS ASPHALT?
Asphalt, also referred to as pavement, blacktop, tarmac, or hot mix asphalt is an engineered mixture of aggregates (Crushed stone, gravel, sand) with bitumen which is a distillation from petroleum. Asphalt is the main material used to pave roads, parking lots, and driveways.
ASPHALT VS CONCRETE
Asphalt is more common in the North Eastern United States mainly due to the drastic change in temperatures through each season. Asphalt, once compacted and cured, will still have the ability to flex with the sub surface as it expands and contracts with freezing and high temperatures. Concrete, once set, is more solid than asphalt but is much more difficult to fix once it has cracked. As mentioned earlier, concrete is more prone to cracking due to the drastic fluctuation in temperatures in our area. Fuel leaks are also more difficult to conceal and remove on a concrete surface than those spilled on an asphalt surface. One of the main deciding factors for customers when discussing the installation of both Asphalt and Concrete driveways is cost. Asphalt is much cheaper to purchase for the homeowner and when installed properly is worth it's weight in gold. Contact Ryan Paving for any questions or concerns you may havre regarding both concrete and asphalt applications.
WHEN CAN I PARK ON MY NEW DRIVEWAY?
The ultimate question upon completion of your new driveway is, when can I park on it? The answer is solely based on what the weather is going to be during the days following. Once your driveway is completed, one of the knowledgeable employees here at Ryan Paving will discuss the proper time frame for parking and will also discuss long term stationary parking such as boats, trailers, etc. New driveways paved during the summer months should expect to stay off of it for a minimum of 3 days.
WHAT IS SEAL COATING?
Seal Coating is the same concept as staining a deck on your house.  Over time, the rain and sun will cause damage to your driveway causing it to weaken, then crack.  Sealing your driveway will give it an extra layer of protection from the elements while extending the overall life of it. As an added benefit, it also freshens up the look and can make it look new.
WHEN AND HOW OFTEN SHOULD I SEAL COAT MY DRIVEWAY?
We recommend that you seal your driveway as soon as 30 days after your driveway has been installed. The second application can be applied after 1 year, Beyond the second application, every other year is sufficient to have your driveway sealed.
DOES MY DRIVEWAY COME WITH A WARRANTY?
All paved driveways/parking lots completed by Ryan Paving come with a 1 year guarantee which begins once the project is completed and balance has been paid in full. Please note, Ryan Paving does not guarantee the following: 1) Damage to trees, plants, or shrubs that are situated above or next to the work area. 2) Damage to trees, tree roots, plants, or shrubs that have to be cut or trimmed in order to properly prepare and install the project. 3) Damage to gas lines, electrical lines, sewer lines, sprinkler systems including heads and lines or any underground utilities beneath or near the work area. 4) Water to flow if the pitch of the driveway is less than 1 inch per 10 feet of driveway. 5) Tire marks left in the new surface.  6) Cracks that form in which the new surface has been applied over an existing surface such as an existing driveway, lot, or concrete. 7) Damage to the edges of the driveway and bordering grounds within a foot.  We will properly tamp and compact the new edge of the driveway. Property owner is responsible to backfill the edge of the driveway and is strongly encouraged to do so to protect the edge. 8) Pebble pops or the uplifting of small stones within the compacted surface in which the customer declined to seal the driveway post application. 9) Any standing or pooling of water in which the grade hasn't been adjusted and specified within the contract agreement. 10) Any damage that occurs to an exitsting surface in which the project consists of adding a new extension that connects to the existing surface. 11) Seams in which the joint of the asphalt is connecting a new surface to an existing surface, for example: patch work, or a new addition being connected to an existing driveway. 12) Vegetation and damage caused, that grows through the new driveway or parking lot such as weeds, grass, roots, etc. 13) Sharp impression marks caused by trailers, car jacks, kick stands, ladders, tire ramps, etc.  Ryan Paving will ensure that each customer is completely satisfied during and beyond each completed project.  In a rare circumstance in which a problem arises, we reserve the right to patch or repair the problematic area by any means necessary.
